This tape features an episode of "10th Inning" that aired on WGN-TV in 1964. Chicago Cubs announcer Jack Brickhouse interviews New York Mets Manager Casey Stengel at Wrigley Field after the Cubs defeated the Mets 7-3. 00:00 This tape begins with color bars and tone. 00:50 A short advertisement for WGN-TV rolls before the program begins. 00:58 Fade into the intro segment for "10th Inning." 01:21 Fade into a shot of Chicago Cubs announcer Jack Brickhouse and New York Mets Manager Casey Stengel. The two stand in the middle of Wrigley Field after a 1964 game between the Cubs and Mets. Brickhouse offers his thanks to Stegel for appearing on the program. Brickhouse asks Stengel whether he will continue his career as a manager in the Major League or whether this is his last year managing. Stengel responds by saying he really doesn't know quite yet. He explains that he has a nice setup with the Mets franchise because he can continue to sign one year contracts with the team until he is ready to retire. 03:24 Brickhouse asks Stengel about some of the pleasant surprises that have come along with his years spent in New York. Stengel highlights strong attendance years for the team and talks about some of the newest players that are a part of the ball club. He also talks about some of the possible trades the team might have to make, specifically, reworking the pitching staff. He also emphasizes the youth of the team and how that is benefiting them. Stengel talks about some of the plays from the game earlier in the day. Brickhouse asks Stengel about certain strategies that he put into action against the Cubs. Stengel goes over his reasons for some of the strategies used in the game. 07:31 Brickhouse asks Stengel about the most memorable managers that he's ever played for while he played in the Major League. Stengel first talks about some of the players who played for him that went on to become managers. He talks about the best managers he'd ever played for. Stengel cites Wilbur Robinson as one of his favorites. He also speaks very highly of John McGraw and his managerial style, and also tells some amusing stories about playing for McGraw. Brickhouse asks Stengel if he's adopted a strict disciplinarian approach when it comes to managing teams. Stengel states that he is not a strict disciplinarian and emphasizes the need to regulate one's meals as a baseball player. 10:17 Brickhouse brings up some of John McGraw's managerial philosophies. Stengel comments on McGraw's style. 11:05 Brickhouse begins to say goodbye to Stengel. Stengel also talks about the Mets' upcoming series with the San Francisco Giants. Brickhouse concludes by joking with Stengel about his sex appeal with the female fans and how that boosts attendance at Shay stadium. Stengel makes some very funny comments about his team's so-called "sex appeal." Stengel leaves the interview and runs off to a group of fans waiting for autographs in Wrigley Field. Brickhouse says a few more kind words about Stengel before moving on to the rest of the show. 12:24 Jack Taylor gives the scores for the day in baseball. 13:44 Cut to a piece on the newest jet in the United Airlines fleet: the 727.
