9/28/14: The Video Ball!

The Media Burn Video Ball is just a few days away!

Now’s your last chance to get tickets at a reduced price!

And remember, there’s FREE PARKING! So if you drive, you can enter the garage on southbound Wabash or westbound Randolph. Park anywhere, and take the elevators to the 10th floor. You’ll receive a validated sticker for free parking when you check in with us. On foot, just enter on Randolph and take the elevators straight to the 10th floor.
We’ve got a lot of amazing plans, and after months of keeping them under wraps, we’re finally ready to share them with you and let you know a little more about our partners!
Our host, Nate Herman, got his start at Second City back in 1967. He also wrote for four seasons of Saturday Night Live and teaches classes as the head of iO’s Comedy Writing Program. Nate is currently the Director of Films For The Ear, which stages readings of classic films.
There’ll be a top-secret video drone demonstration by Scrappers Film Group, who are also helping us with the state-of-the-art TV Wall showcasing videos from the archive and an Imaging Station where you can check out a real Sony Portapak.
We’ll also have a Charlie Vinz-built reconstruction of the set from This Week in Joe’s Basement, Joe Winston’s Chicago public access show that ran for 60 episodes in the early ’90s, and was rumored to have inspired Wayne’s World. So feel free to get a picture taken as you kick your feet up in the iconic armchair and eat a snack!
Get interviewed by “Young Studs Terkels!” A youth film crew will be interviewing party-goers in a collaboration with Free Spirit Media, which partners with schools and organizations to provide education, access, and opportunity in media production to youth and young adults from under-resourced communities in Chicago.
You won’t want to miss out on the live auction and raffle! We’ve got a lot of great stuff up for auction, including:
“Narcotic” etching by Tony Fitzpatrick
Original “Bob” from Image Union, 1978
Two historic photographs by Tom Palazzolo with accompanying DVDs
Bozo’s 25th Anniversary limited edition poster by Victor Skrebneski
And a week long stay at a condo near Palm Springs (Indio), California!
There will also be live music throughout the evening by Brass Inferno Productions!
Sauce and Bread Kitchen will be serving their pulled pork & grilled veggie nachos. Sauce and Bread Kitchen is a joint effort between Mike Bancroft of Co-Op Sauce and Anne Kostroski of Crumb Chicago. Originally a part of Co-Op Image, Co-Op Sauce employs local youth to craft small-batch sauces using hand-picked ingredients, so they’ll also be presenting a limited edition “Media Burn” Hot Sauce! Are you brave enough to feel the burn?
Beer is courtesy of local microbrewery Haymarket Brewery, who specialize in classic Belgian and contemporary American beer styles. Wine will be provided by Nisei Lounge, “Chicago’s finest dive bar” located one block south of Wrigley Field.
So if you still haven’t bought your tickets for the Video Ball this Sunday, buy them now while they’re still at a reduced price!
