Wild Chicago Visits Checkerboard Lounge (1990)

Wild Chicago was a local favorite on WTTW – Chicago produced by Harvey Moshman that led viewers to unusual places, people, and events all over Chicagoland.

Hosts Ben Hollis and Will Clinger have recently donated many episodes of Wild Chicago to Media Burn, which are being digitized and cataloged. Today, we are happy to present a short clip from one of the Ben Hollis episodes as a sneak peak of everything that will soon be available for viewing.

In this clip, Hollis visits the original Checkerboard Lounge and Blues Hall of Fame that was open from 1972-2003. The club was co-founded by Buddy Guy, and featured tributes to famous blues musicians and nightly live music. The Checkerboard moved to Hyde Park in 2005, and finally closed for good in 2015.

Ben Hollis has written and is performing a one night only show titled “How The Beatles Nearly Ruined My Life…And David Bowie Saved It.” It will take place on Sunday, April 23 at 3:00 PM at Chicago’s Catalyst Ranch. Tickets are $25 and are available at the link listed above.
