[Magnolia Club opening at Victory Gardens Theater]

This tape features footage from the opening of "The Magnolia Club," the second production of the Victory Gardens Theater. The production took place at the Northside Auditorium Building, now known as The Metro in Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood.

The camera operator eventually makes his way towards the stage to gather close range shots of the musicians tuning their instruments. This lasts for several minutes.

Eventually, the camera operator makes his way downstairs to the basement where the actual party is being held. In the dimly lit area, we watch as party goers share a few drinks, eat hors d’ouvres, and soak up the party atmosphere. This lasts for several minutes.

14:18Copy video clip URL A woman speaks with the videomaker about a videomaking class she is currently enrolled in through Loop College. This quickly cuts over to footage of numerous party goers entering the lobby. The press has also shown up for the event and makes their way downstairs. The light on their cameras illuminate the dimly lit space. We continue to see footage from around the party. This lasts for several minutes.

17:59Copy video clip URL Cut back up to the lobby where more guests arrive to the event. We then follow theater goers who make their way upstairs for the very first performance of the play. This is followed by footage from the after party.

19:57Copy video clip URL One of those involved with the play offers his thanks to the cast and various members of the production. He hands out a few gifts to some of the more important people involved in the production. Shortly after his speech, champagne is served and guests continue to converse with one another. The videomakers eventually interview two women about their experience at the show. The two are very complimentary of the production. The camera operator continues to gather footage from the party.

The videomakers go on to speak with a few other party goers about their thoughts on the show. One man begins to criticize the production shortly before the tape ends.
