She states that campaign finance laws favor the individually wealthy or people who have access to special interests. “That’s not fair. That undermines our democracy and it undermines our institutions… Our country is only going to work if we take advantage of the diversity, if we bring the creativity and give people the chance to contribute to making it better, and when you have so many rules that keep people out, then there’s something wrong with that and that has to change.” Braun goes on to talk about the encouraging aspects of her candidacy based on the fact that she is an African-American woman. “People from all over saying that they are prepared to deal with the content of one’s character and the message and the platform, and not just all of these artificial divisions. People are tired, I think, of the kind of politics that pits us against each other.” Haninia then asks Braun about what being elected as a state senator would say and represent. Braun responds, “It would say that people are going for substance. It would say that people are going for integrity and politicians who are ready to be accountable for what they do and what better message in the Land of Lincoln in the international year of the woman.” Haninia then asks Braun if she gets angry because of negativity in the campaign. Braun states that she keeps a positive outlook on things and that she uses the negativity as fuel to run a better campaign.
