Raw footage for The 90's election specials. This tape follows Democratic candidate for congress, Dick Simpson; and then we follow the man Simpson is attempting to unseat, Dan Rostenkowski.

13:43Copy video clip URL Congressman Dan Rostenkowski goes to Wilbur Wright College in Chicago. People set up for his speech, and unlike any of Simpson’s events, there is media present. Cohen briefly records the rainy outdoors, as Rostenkowski arrives.

23:55Copy video clip URL Rostenkowski goes onstage at a podium against a banner that says, “Wright College” and makes a joking announcement that the U.S. Department of Energy is to give a 3 million dollar grant to Wright College. He then introduces the Chairman of Chicago City Colleges, Ron Gidwitz. While Gidwitz speaks dryly about the use of an energy grant at Wright College, Cohen focuses on Rostenkowski sitting in the background.

36:14Copy video clip URL At St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr School on Chicago’s northwest side (note that this is different from St. Stanislaus Kostka, Rostenkowski’s home parish). Children gather at the door to welcome Rostenkowski, who visits classes and speaks to the kids. One classroom greets him by saying “Good Afternoon Congressman Rostenkowski” in unison. Children ask him questions about making education better, and creating jobs. Rostenkowski almost always answers that we need to invest more money.
