Time Out, episode 106

This tape features a 1984 episode of "Time Out," a weekly sports program that is hosted by a number of Chicago area journalists and sportscasters. This week's commentators are Ray Sons of the Chicago Sun-Times, Kenny McReynolds, a WBMX Sportscaster and Assistant Coach for DePaul University's Men's Basketball team, WIND reporter Fran Spielman, and former NBA star John Mengelt. Bill Veeck appears on the show as well. On this episode, the commentators interview DePaul Freshman and basketball sensation Dallas Comegys about his experience with the team.

They discuss the viability of the United States Football League signing rookie Quarterback Steve Young to a forty million dollar deal. The four seem skeptical about the USFL’s decision to sign the young rookie to such a large contract. They also talk about the upcoming NCAA Tournament and the University of Illinois Men’s Basketball team. McReynolds addresses the retirement of Ray Meyer from the DePaul Men’s Basketball team as well. The four go on to talk about the recent happenings in Chicago baseball. This eventually cuts into a segment with Bill Veeck.

This eventually cuts into a segment on the die hard Chicago Blackhawks fans that watch hockey games from the nosebleed section at Chicago Stadium.

16:08Copy video clip URL Mengelt begins to talk to Comegys about his reasons for attending DePaul University. Comegys cites his dream of playing for Ray Meyer as one of his determining factors for coming to DePaul. He goes on to talk about his introduction to the team and praises his teammates and coaching staff for their support and guidance. The interview is followed by a number clips of Comegys in action on the court.

21:40Copy video clip URL Dissolve back into a shot of the four commentators at the back bar table discussing the upcoming high school State Championship Tournament. They then make a few predictions for the next week’s sporting events.

    Voice-over at the beginning and at the end is Marty Robinson. The person who is hosting the telethon is also Marty Robinson
