Time Out, episode 146

This tape features a 1984 episode of "Time Out," a weekly sports program that was hosted by a number of Chicago area journalists and sportscasters. This week's commentators are Sports Illustrated correspondent Rick Telander, WBMX Sportscaster and Assistant Coach for DePaul University's Men's Basketball team Kenny McReynolds, WIND reporter Fran Spielman, and former NBA star John Mengelt.

The narrator gives a brief overview of the program which includes: a year end review and commentary from Bill Veeck, a look at the Chicago Cubs’ dazzling 1984 season, a recap of Gary Fencik’s football predictions, and a look at a number of interviews from sports personalities over the past year.

Each commentator highlights what her or she believes to be some of the bigger moments of the year. This cuts into a segment on the Cubs’ entire 1984 season.

This segment lasts for several minutes and includes interviews with a number of Cubs fans weighing in on the team’s winning season.

Actor Bill Murray also gives his opinion on the Cubs team and expresses his desire to sing the National Anthem at a Cubs World Series game. There is a compilation of memorable plays that is included in the segment as well.

Ray Meyer, Reggie Jackson, Jim Finks, Steve Garvey, Orlando Woolridge, and Bill Lee are all seen talking sports with various “Time Out” correspondents. This is followed by a fast forward look at Michael Jordan on the basketball court.

20:04Copy video clip URL Cut to a shot of Roger Wallenstein and Bill Veeck at the back bar. Veeck showcases the many highs and lows in Chicago sports throughout the year. Veeck expresses his excitement over the end of 1984 before talking about the upcoming year. The two also mull over the possibility of another Cubs playoff run in ’85 and the improvements that can be made on the Sox ball club. This segment closes with a shot of a snow covered Wrigley Field during the off-season. Cubs announcers Jack Brickhouse and Harry Caray can be heard celebrating over some of the more memorable moments that took place throughout the season.
