Moments After: Carol Marin On the Scene of Ground Zero (September 11th, 2001)

Twenty years ago this Saturday, viewers across the U.S. and around the globe watched in horror as the moments immediately following the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks unfolded live on television.

Twenty years ago this Saturday, viewers across the U.S. and around the globe watched in horror as the moments immediately following the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks unfolded live on television. On the ground that day was then-60 Minutes correspondent for CBS News in Manhattan and Chicago’s own Carol Marin, who endured the terrifying chaos below the World Trade Centers as the north tower collapsed onto the streets below. Moments after and covered in rubble, Marin bravely entered the news studio and recounted her experience live to CBS News anchor Dan Rather, telling of both the life-threatening circumstances she was in as well as the bravery of the first responders who helped her get to safety.

This clip and other on-air and special reports have been graciously donated by Carol Marin to be preserved in our collection at Media Burn. Click here to watch more of her reports, and make sure to read Robert Feder‘s interview with Marin on the legacy of 9/11, twenty years later.
