Introducing Our New Collections Portal

Some of you saw the article in ReelChicago celebrating ten years of mediaburn.org. We’re so proud of what we have achieved and our continuing efforts to make our website more accessible and engaging.

For the last several years we have enjoyed hosting interns from the University of Michigan School of Information during their spring break. These interns have been responsible for many of the transformations in our website that have made it more modern and fun to use. This year, our Alternative Spring Break (ASB) interns, Vijeta Belandor, Shen Wang, and Tim Yoo, did a beautiful redesign of mediaburn.org.

Below are before and after photos of the website as well as a few of shots of our charming interns!

Their most exciting innovation was the creation of our Collections page. The new portal offers a more comprehensive sense of our archive and empowers people who may not already know what collection contains to browse in a more productive and compelling way.

We are also saying so long to Sean Schönherr, Video Editor and Curator. Sean has been with Media Burn for the past five years and spent hundreds of hours digitizing and logging footage. In this video, Sean speaks about how the process of curating materials for our year-long Studs Terkel Video Festival provided the experience of getting to know Studs as a person. Sean provides great insight into the educational and entertainment power of archival video and of our collection in particular.
