Molly Ivins’ Biting Election Commentary is Still True

“I don’t want an option on the ballot that says, ‘None of the Above,’ I want an option that says, ‘It makes me vomit.'”

                                                                             -Molly Ivins, 1996

History, as we learned in high school, has a way of repeating itself.

Molly Ivins (1944-2007) was an outspoken journalist, political commentator, and author. Skip Blumberg interviewed her for our 1996 PBS special, None of the Above, which focused on the 60% of eligible voters who chose not to vote.

Ivins speaks about the corruption of our campaign finance system, in a refrain that seems equally valid in 2020 as it did in 1996. It’s yet another example of how the camera original videos we preserve and digitize continue to have relevance far into the future.

Watch the full interview with Ivins or the insightful program None of the Above, hosted by John Callaway and featuring David Axelrod.
