Tribute to Andrew Jones and his video on the ’92 L.A. Riots

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots that were triggered by the news of the acquittal of the five L.A. police officers who had beaten Rodney King (1965-2012) after a car chase and his arrest in 1991. The police actions against King were captured on videotape which was broadcast worldwide on TV.

Videomaker Andrew P. Jones created a stunning portrait of Los Angeles and its people shortly after the 1992 riots.  Jones, one of the most talented videomakers ever, passed away tragically in 2010. Watch his video below, after a video tribute by Tom Weinberg.

You can watch Andrew’s original 30-minute documentary on the L.A. Riots at Media Burn. Hundreds more of his tapes are in our archive through his work on The 90’s and other shows.
