Hall of Famer Mike Smith won his second Kentucky Derby last Saturday (5/5/18). He rode Justify, still undefeated in four career races. Smith, now 52, earned $124,000 for the two-minute race. He got his first Derby win in 2005, aboard Giacomo, a 50-1 long shot. Thoroughbred Kentucky filmmakers Eleanor Bingham Miller and Bruce Skinner featured Mike Smith (below) in Thunder and Reins, their 47-minute 2007 documentary about and with Derby-winning jockeys. Today marks the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field, iconic home of the Chicago Cubs. It was also the home of two football teams—the Chicago Bears (1921-1970) and the Chicago Cardinals (1931-1939)—and saw performances by the Chicago Blackhawks as well as musical legends like Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.
