Studs Terkel chats and jokes with Nelson Algren. Algren had recently moved from Chicago to New Jersey, and this move was the subject of most of the conversation, told mainly through deadpan jokes.
Tom Weinberg speaks through the camera to Paul Harvey and his wife, requesting permission to shoot a WTTW documentary about Harvey, a local radio personality. To aid his case, Weinberg shows approximately 3 minutes of completed footage for the documentary. There are a few MOS-type interviews with truckers at a rest stop explaining why they like Paul Harvey, plus extensive praise from Harry Caray, Chicago’s famous sports announcer. These interviews are bracketed by footage shot inside a vehicle driving through rural Midwestern areas with Harvey’s radio show as audio.
