    Out Of The Silence: Fighting For Human Rights

    Documentary made up of narration, archive footage, and current footage and interviews highlighting human rights struggles. The first half focuses on the victorious fight for human rights in Czechoslovakia, concentrating on methods of underground information dissemination, including samizdat literature and The Video Journal created by Czech dissidents. The second half focuses on the ongoing struggle for human rights in Guatemala. This main concentration is on the human rights workers and the Guatemalan government’s attempts to squelch them through beatings, kidnappings, and killings.

    Videomaker Esti Marpet enters Nagorno Karabakh in hopes of further understanding the conflict between ethnic Christian Armenians and mostly Muslim Azerbaijan which claims the land of Karabakh as its own. Marpet gives an overview of the conflict,  spends time with the Karabakh military fighting for liberation, visits the military clinic, and speaks with refugees.

Protesters confront Peter Jennings about his network’s Persian Gulf War coverage. Difficult to hear at times because of background noise of the demonstration.

  • Five Day Bicycle Race

    Five Day Bicycle Race

    A documentary made at the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York City, which was produced as a live 3-hour cablecast for five days during the convention. It was subsequently broadcast on WTTW and other PBS stations. It chronicles the events in and around the convention, and includes interviews with various delegates, politicians, members of the media, and people connected to Jimmy Carter, including Rosalynn Carter and Jeff Carter (Jimmy’s son). It also includes footage from the convention floor and demonstrators outside the convention, led by Ron Kovic.
