    Studs’ Place: Teen Job

    “Teen Job,” an episode of “Studs’ Place,” shows a tension between young, newly-hired Johnny and his mother, Marie. Marie wants only what’s best for her son, and in this amounts to Johnny spending his vacation in relaxation. Marie confronts Studs and asks him to fire Johnny so he won’t buy a hot rod and, potentially, put himself in danger. Studs conceded, but soon they find out what sort of intentions Johnny actually has. Also featuring musical performances by Chet and Win.

    “Card Shark,” an episode of “Studs’ Place,” features Studs and Chet trying to beat a card shark at his own game. They plan to expose the alleged traveling salesman as a hustler in order to protect the community. Their plan backfires after they jump to conclusions. Also featuring a song from Win Stracke.

    Studs’ Place: Bowling

    “Bowling,” an episode of “Studs’ Place,” has Studs, Chet, and Willie trying to tell Win that he’s been kicked off their bowling team. All the while, Studs has to get himself out of an obligation with his wife to go to a dance. Studs finds an ingenious way to restore Win’s hurt feelings and go to the dance, but his plan backfires on him. The episode also features a musical performance by Win.

    Studs’ Place: Arthritis

    Holiday episode of “Studs’ Place.” The episode, “Arthritis,” focuses on themes of charity and deceit. The episode begins with Studs confusion about the pile of solicitations he receives in the mail every holiday season. Studs receives $52 from his Christmas Savings Fund. He saved $1 every week for the year so he’d have money for gifts during the holiday season. He plans to buy a phonograph. Sparky, a friend of Chet’s, enters the restaurant, and, coincidentally, needs $50 to get to New York City. The episode ends with a twist.

    Studs Terkel compilation

    Archival footage of Studs Terkel. First piece is a look at the circus narrated by Terkel. Followed by two episodes of the show Studs’ Place, which was broadcast out of Chicago from 1949-51. It featured improvised comedy and some jazz performances.
