[The 90’s raw : God’s Love We Deliver]

Raw footage for the award-winning series The 90’s. Videomaker Esti Marpet visits God’s Love We Deliver, a charity group that delivers meals to home-bound patients with AIDS and other debilitating diseases. Marpet spends most of the tape in the kitchen interviewing staff members about how the organization functions and about their connections to the cause. There is also a lengthy interview with a current client of the organization and one the co-founders, Ganga Stone, who talks about how she founded the organization.

  • [The 90’s raw: John Parker]

    [The 90’s raw: John Parker]

Raw footage for the award-winning TV series “The 90’s.” In New Haven, Connecticut, ex-addict John Parker of the National AIDS Brigade illegally distributes clean needles to intravenous drug users to prevent the spread of AIDS. Parker is in thousands of dollars of debt, paying for the program entirely himself. He feels that his program empowers people to feel like they can make a difference in their own lives, which is the first step towards treatment. On the day when videomaker Skip Blumberg is shooting, Parker is also being interviewed by an ABC news crew. Blumberg’s shooting style contrasts greatly with that of the ABC crew, who prefer to set up artificial situations rather than shoot events as they unfold. After they leave the park where he is distributing the needles, they go to the “shooting gallery” where IV drug addicts inject themselves. We learn that the health department has cut off his support and Parker has competition from gay organizations.

  • The AIDS Connection: Hour V

    The AIDS Connection: Hour V

This tape is a broadcast from hour 5 of an historic live, all night, talk show that addressed various issues surrounding the AIDS crisis. It was a breakthrough for live TV via satellite as it had never been attempted to connect five locations via satellite, with live feeds to and from the CONUS/Hubbard Broadcasting studio in Minneapolis. No nationally televised long-form program about the AIDS epidemic had been on the air when this was produced. It was seen on more than 120 stations around the country and brought together top experts in the field in the early days of public awareness of AIDS.

Each hour featured a panel of guests taking questions from the hosts, the studio audience members, and the audience members and panelists participating via satellite. This hour is split into two half-hour segments. The first segment focuses on the global AIDS crisis and AIDS outside of the U.S. The second segment focuses on AIDS and religion (mainly AIDS and Christianity). Each segment features a call-in survey related to the segment topic. Several public service announcements, usually featuring celebrities, were shown in each half hour.
