[1975 MLB All-Star Game]

This tape features a game summary of the MLB All-Star Game held at Milwaukee's County Stadium in July of 1975. We follow the National League and American League on their quest for mid-summer glory.

01:38Copy video clip URL Cut to the intro segment of the program. Various stadium employees and ground crews are seen putting the field together. The narrator describes the scene as fans begin to file in to the ball park.

02:31Copy video clip URL Cut to segment entitled, “All Star Fever.” Players are seen signing autographs and conversing with one another before the game. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger is in attendance and throws out the ceremonial first pitch. Mickey Mantle and Stan Musial are the All-Star Captains for the day. The pre-game ceremonies continue for several minutes.

06:15Copy video clip URL The game begins with Oakland A’s pitcher Vida Blue going up against Cincinnati Reds Infielder Pete Rose. Rose hits a base hit right off the bat. However, the National League comes up empty handed in the top of the first inning. Pittsburgh Pirates Pitcher Jerry Reuss takes the mound for the National League to throw against New York Yankees Outfielder Bobby Bonds, who hits a pop fly for the first out. Thurman Munson of the New York Yankees steps up to the plate a little later in the inning and takes a base. The inning ends shortly afterwards.

08:16Copy video clip URL L.A. Dodgers Steve Garvey steps into the batting box against Vida Blue once again. Garvey hits a home run to make the score 1-0. Directly afterwards, Jimmy Wynn of the L.A. Dodgers hits another home run to give the National League a 2-0 lead. Ron Cey of the L.A. Dodgers hits a line drive to left field for a base hit. The inning ends shortly afterwards.

10:18Copy video clip URL In the bottom of the second, Gene Tenace hits a ground ball to short for a base hit. Oakland A’s Burt Camapaneris hits a single to put two runners on base. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Hank Aaron then takes the plate and is very well received by the home town crowd. Aaron hits a ground ball to short and the inning ends. The National League holds their lead 2-0.

11:30Copy video clip URL Kansas City Royals Pitcher Steve Busby takes the mound in the top of the third inning. St. Louis Cardinals Lou Brock hits a single to center field. Brock goes on to steal third base after a baulk. Cincinnati Reds Johnny Bench hits a line drive to left field bringing in another run. Steve Garvey hits a single to put runners at first and second. Ron Cey hits a line drive to left field which ultimately gets caught by Oakland A’s Outfielder Joe Rudi to end the inning. The score is now 3-0 in favor of the National League.

13:56Copy video clip URL In the bottom of the third, Minnesota Twins Rod Carew gets a base hit. Reggie Jackson of the Oakland A’s gets another base hit. However, The American League comes up empty handed once again after Joe Rudi gets thrown out at first base. Cincinnati Reds’ Dave Concepcion leads of the fourth with a base hit. Houston Astros’ Bob Watson pops out to end the inning.

15:27Copy video clip URL Don Sutton of the L.A. Dodgers takes the mound for the National League. The American League once again comes up empty handed leaving the score at 3-0. Jim Kaat takes the mound for the American League in the top of the fifth and quickly retires the side. In the bottom of the sixth, New York Mets Pitcher Tom Seever takes the mound for the National League. Boston Red Sox Infielder Carl Yastrzemski takes the plate and hits a three run home run to tie the game. Pitcher Catfish Hunter of the New York Yankees takes the mound for the American League in the top of the seventh. Pete Rose hits a single off of Hunter. The inning ends shortly afterwards. In the bottom of the seventh, New York Mets Pitcher Jon Matlack quickly retires the side. The score is still 3-3.

21:47Copy video clip URL In the top of the ninth, St. Louis Cardinals’ Reggie Smith hits a base hit. Pittsburgh Pirates’ Al Oliver hits a double to bring the runners into scoring position. Rich Gossage of the Chicago White Sox replaces Catfish Hunter at the mound and loads the bases. Chicago Cubs’ Bill Madlock hits a grounder to left field to bring in two runs making the score 5-3. Pete Rose then brings in a another run to make the score 6-3. San Diego Padres Pitcher Randy Jones to close the game. He quickly retires the side and the National League wins the game 6-3.
