[Making It In Hollywood raw #78]

Raw footage from the 1976 documentary "Making It In Hollywood," which follows several actors as they attempt to break into the movie business. This tape takes place on the set of the 1976 version of "King Kong." Actor Julius Harris dispenses advice to two young actors.

He describes the work of being an actor in concrete terms: learning a craft, finding small roles, taking workshops. One of them mentions the possibility of joining the army and Harris suggests joining the Motion Picture/Pictorial unit.

Harris responds: “Gotta remember one thing, we’ve got two strikes against us when we start, baby: black, and young. If you don’t have any goddamn experience, they’re gonna say ‘We don’t want you.’ So you’ve got to get it.” He advises them to get experience on stage or in school or the army. He describes the experience of actual filming as a difficult grind.
