[The 90’s Election Specials raw: Clintons at Maine South High School #2]

Raw tape for The 90's election specials. Bill and Hillary Clinton visit Hillary's alma mater, Maine South High School in Park Ridge, IL. Hillary Clinton gives a speech, and then Bill Clinton answers questions from Maine South students. After that, Bill and Hillary attend a meet and greet and tour of the school.

00:00Copy video clip URL This tape begins with footage of Bill Clinton addressing a large crowd of students at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, IL. He briefly talks about his candidacy and quickly introduces Hillary Clinton to the podium.

03:15Copy video clip URL During her speech, Hillary discusses how she became a Democrat in the overwhelmingly Republican Park Ridge, IL thanks to a civics class at Maine South that assigned her the role of debating as a Democrat: “…we were forced to actually examine deeply what we believed…”

04:50Copy video clip URL Hillary discussing her current political beliefs: “… [My beliefs are not] easily defined … they’re not dogmatically Republican, [or] dogmatically Democrat …”

Bill and Hillary Clinton take a few questions from the audience about a variety of issues including foreign policy, environmental policy, their lessons learned while in public service, most important primary states, his membership in the Democratic Leadership Council, and her agenda as First Lady. At the end of the Q & A, the Clintons are each awarded a Maine South Jersey. This lasts for a good portion of the tape.

32:46Copy video clip URL After the Q & A, Bill and Hillary slowly make their way out of the auditorium.  Videomaker Eddie Becker briefly interviews students about their impressions of the Clintons.  He then follows Hillary as she does a meet & greet with students and faculty. Becker eventually begisn to interview more students about their views on Clinton and the Vietnam War. Becker eventually finds the Clintons once again and follows them as they leave the school. A slew of students hoot and holler at the Clintons as they leave. This lasts for a good portion of the tape.

An employee at the office claims that Hillary Clinton was a “star student.” Another office employee says that she would be “better off running for president.” She also talks about the town of Park Ridge being very Republican and Hillary Clinton’s take charge personality. This lasts for the remainder of the tape.
