[Voices of Cabrini raw: b-roll driving]

Raw video shot for "Voices of Cabrini." Shot between 1995-1999, it documented the Cabrini Green redevelopment project proposed and carried out by the City of Chicago. This tape features b-roll recorded from inside a car. The car takes various routes around Cabrini-Green and the Gold Coast neighborhood. No audio for the majority of the tape.

The car crosses the Division Street bridge over the North Branch Canal of the Chicago River. The car stops at a red light at Division and Halsted Street. Faint audio.

Since the lot is empty, the camera records a large area of the Cabrini grounds. Jenner Elementary School and buildings from the Cabrini Extension South project can be seen. The camera then passes 1150-1160 N. Sedgwick. The building has been vacated.

The car passes under the elevated tracks right as a train moves over them. The side of 1150-1160 N. Sedgwick comes into view, along with the Cabrini-Green gate and the “Come Back to Black Town” sign. The 500-502 W. Oak high rise comes into view, along with St. Sebastian’s Church, and 1158 N. Cleveland. 1159-1161 N. Larrabee enters the frame followed by 1121 N. Larrabee on the left-hand side of the frame. The tape cuts before the car crosses Larrabee Street.

It is sunset. They pass a number of newly built town homes and then pass Blackhawk Street to show more newly built town homes. This area is just northeast of the Green homes.

The camera passes a number of run-down store fronts and residential buildings. The camera records the side of 1150-1160 N. Sedgwick as it was seen looking southeast down Scott Street. 534 W. Division, a Green high rise, enters on the right-hand side of the frame.

The camera then records the other side of 534 W. Division followed briefly by other dilapidated buildings. Color bars.

The camera still faces north and records a vacated brick warehouse building, an empty lot, a currency exchange, George Robbins’s barbershop at 456 W. Division, a gutted brick building, and then the vacant Tranquility Marksman Youth Center building at the corner of Clybourn and Division. The car continues east down Division. The car passes Sedgwick, Carson Field, and then approaches the elevated railroad tracks.

Division and Robbins’s Barbershop are seen.
