[World Series of 1959 segments]

This tape features clips from the 1959 World Series between the Chicago White Sox and the L.A. Dodgers. It appears that the original film footage was projected and taped. At times the projector pauses on a still or fast-forwards.

00:13Copy video clip URL Cut to the intro segment and credits for the “World Series of 1959” program. The program is narrated by Vince Scully.

Fans are seen filing in to the stands as Scully speaks of the dedication of Chicago White Sox fans, who set a new attendance record this past year. American League President Joe Cronin is in attendance for the game. We watch as both Sox Pitcher Early Wynn and Dodgers Pitcher Roger Craig warm up before the game. Soon after the flag raising ceremony, the players take the field.

01:59Copy video clip URL The White Sox take the field. Dodgers Outfielder Jim Gilliam grounds out on the first at bat of the game. Sox Infielder Nellie Fox takes a base in the Sox’s first inning at bat. Sox Outfielder Jim Landis hits single to right field bringing Fox to third. Sox Infielder Ted Kluszewski then hits a base hit bringing in the first run of the series. Shortly after this, the footage freezes.

03:09Copy video clip URL We fast forward a bit to Game Four in the series held in L.A. Both Roger Craig and Early Wynn pitch against one another once again. White Sox President Bill Veeck and his wife Mary Frances are in attendance. The game stays scoreless until the bottom of the third when Dodgers Outfielder Wally Moon Scores a run off of a White Sox error. The Dodgers take a 4-0 lead by the end of the inning. In the seventh inning, the White Sox tie the game with a three run home run hit by Catcher Sherm Lollar.

06:50Copy video clip URL In the eighth inning, Dodgers Infielder Gil Hodges hits a home run to give his team the lead 5-4. The Dodgers go on to win the game 5-4 to gain a 3-1 lead in the series.

07:56Copy video clip URL Fade into an overhead shot of the massive field in L.A. 92,706 fans show up to the game, setting a new World Series record for attendance. The Dodgers only need one more victory to win the series. White Sox Vice President Charles Comiskey and his wife are in attendance rooting for the White Sox. Dodgers Pitcher Sandy Koufax faces off against White Sox Pitcher Bob Shaw. We watch the beginning of the second inning before the tape gets cut off.
