Mike Wallace (1918-2012) on interviewing the Ayatollah

We wanted to honor the life and career of journalist Myron “Mike” Wallace (1918-2012).

Two tapes in our archive feature Wallace telling the story of one of the defining moments of his career: his interview with the Ayatollah Khomeini during the Iran hostage crisis.

One of the tapes is a 1985 program by camcorder pioneer and video artist Skip Blumberg called “Interviews with Interviewers… About Interviewing” (also featuring interviews with Susan Stamberg, Studs Terkel, and Barbara Walters).

The other is a live event from 2000 where Wallace and Terkel spoke on “The Art of the Journalistic Interview.”

Watch the full “Interviews with Interviewers…About Interviewing” and “The Art of the Journalistic Interview.” Wallace is also a memorable presence in TVTV’s 1972 “Four More Years.”
