Join us for a presentation and discussion of the work of one of Chicago’s most vital journalistic endeavors, Change Agents, a podcast series by Chicagoans trained to tell stories of their neighborhood transformations and the folks who make them happen. Executive Producer Judith McCray will be joined by journalist Jocelyn Martinez-Rosales and BUILD Chicago’s Alden Bell, members of the podcast’s Season 3 collaborative team and the producers of the episode “Justice That Heals,” which examines the philosophy behind restorative justice and the ways that community organizations like BUILD put it into practice to combat violence in Chicago’s most impacted neighborhoods.

Developed by McCray and Maurice Bisaillon of Juneteenth Productions, Change Agents is a partnership between community organizers and emerging journalists of color who are provided the tools to produce professionally crafted episodes that highlight issues, challenges and ground level efforts for change.

About Judith McCray

McCray is an award winning documentary filmmaker, broadcast journalist and producer. Twenty six years ago she founded Juneteenth Productions to find and tell stories from the perspective and experiences of people who matter, whom we hear too little about or from. She passionately believes that media is an effective tool for positive social change and reaching people and communities that are underrepresented. She loves sailing and horseback riding – but rarely gets to do either.

About Jocelyn Martinez-Rosales

Martinez-Rosales is a Latina multimedia journalist based in Chicago. In addition to being a producer for Change Agents, she is a fact checker for Truthout. Her work covers a range of social justice issues impacting communities of color.

About Alden Bell

Bell has been a practitioner of restorative justice since 2013 and serves as the manager of Training and Civic Engagement at BUILD Chicago’s Peace and Justice Center.
