While cooking dinner, the two talk about their family, their jobs, their hobbies, and what it’s like to live in Morro Bay. The camera operator goes on to ask the two about their reasons for not voting. Michael talks about the philosophies he put into practice after growing up in the sixties. “I believed what they told us in the sixties. ‘Drop out,’ you know. The system will get a hold of you and once you’re part of it they’ve got a hold of you from then on, and I don’t want to know them. I don’t want them to know where I am. I don’t register to vote because they get an awful lot of mailing lists and stuff like that off of those voter registration lists, and I don’t want to be a part of it. I really don’t.” Holly talks about her unhappiness with the current political structure in the country. Michael also talks about the war on drugs and the need to legalize all drugs. He goes on to say, “If a president was to come to me and say, ‘Look, I’m going to line my pockets. I’m going to line my friends’ pockets. I’m going to take care of everybody I know. But in the process, I’m going to give you good schools. I’m going to give you less interference. I’m going to give you good clean drugs. I’m going to give you good highways. I’m going to give you a butt out kind of government.’ I’d vote for him, because I think that’s honest. I like somebody that’s honestly dishonest. If the guy’s going to be a crook, let him be an honest crook. I think that’s the way it should be.” Michael goes into more detail about the dishonesty within politics. “We know they’re crooks. I mean, they spend millions of dollars trying to find out how to put the spin on what they say to make us believe that they’re not doing anything wrong. Phooey.” When asked what they are going to do on election day, Michael says, “Watch and laugh.”
