    Raw footage for the award-winning series The 90’s. A recording of a live performance of “Milly’s Orchid Show,” a variety show at the Park West in Chicago, starring Brigid Murphy. Murphy emcee’s the show in the character of Southern Belle Milly Mae Smithy for this live comedy / variety show. This footage was shot with a static camera. Performers/performances include: House-O-Matic, a teenage dance group; Lisa Kotin, who performs an instructional parody, “Spring Training: Miss America”; a young teenage boy who sings a provocative R & B song, during which he strips off his shirt; comedian Emo Philips performs his typically eccentric stand-up act; the Texas Rubies, a female duo, perform a comedic rap, and some country songs; and a performance by musician Jim Lauderdale. [This tape contains the static version of more shaky / close-up footage on another tape.]

Most of the documentary is spent watching Bromberg and his band perform. There is some interview footage with Bromberg and his band members in between performances.

    Raw footage from the 1976 documentary “Making It In Hollywood”, which follows several actors as they attempt to break into the movie business. This tape takes place on the set of the made-for-TV movie “Stonestreet: Who Killed the Centerfold Model?” with actress Sally Kirkland. We watch Kirkland perform multiple takes of a scene; we watch the cast an d crew eat lunch. Leslie Stevens, the film’s writer and producer, is interviewed about movie stardom. He classifies stardom into three categories: artistry, celebrity, and notoriety. Stevens goes on to discuss why some talented actors never become stars. He says stardom is determined by how an act or is “packaged” or “sold” to the public.

This tape features actress Sally Kirkland describing how she is tough and recalling a night when she was nearly assaulted in New York; Kirkland pleading with director Frank Cavestani to erase the tape used in a previous interview (said tape contains private information confided to Kirkland by musician Kinky Friedman during a phone conversation…see [Making It Raw #8]); and Kirkland calling Shelley Winters.
