This tape captures the mood at a rally for Rostenkowski in the field house in Chicago’s Pulaski Park (which sits in Rostenkowski’s district on Chicago’s northwest side). A small boy has trouble pronouncing “Rostenkowski.” A polka band plays. At about ten minutes in, Rostenkowski enters the rally, and climbs the stage to give a speech. He says a few words, and then introduces Richard M. Daley, who is running for the office of State’s Attorney.

He also discusses his political future, dodging the question of whether or not he’ll run for mayor of Chicago or attempt to become Speaker of the House of Representatives (saying everyone should want to become mayor or a congressman).

Interview with Laura Flanders (1961-), prominent feminist journalist who was born in Great Britain, about what the rest of the world thinks of America. “The British, being the falling empire that they are, revel in a sort of patronizing attitude towards the rest of the world and in particular, the United States.” She also talks about common American attitudes towards the British, claiming that a British accent is practically synonymous with intelligence in America, but says that “the British deserve more suspicion than that.”
