    Footage from radio personality Steve Dahl’s performance of several parodies of well-known rock songs in “Rock on the Roof” during Chicagofest in 1981, followed by interviews with fans. This is a continuation of tape 2.

  • Anzanga Marimba And Dance Ensemble

    This tape is an episode of “This Town’s Talent”, a program that appears to be produced for a local PBS or cable-access station. This episode features The Anzanga Marimba and Dance Ensemble, a group that performs traditional and contemporary African music using mostly marimbas, a type of African xylophone. The group performs five or six songs, and then ends the show with a traditional African dance. While the music and dancing are good, the show is hampered by its low (i.e. cable-access-ish) production values.

    This tape is a compilation of wonderful soul performances from the 1960’s TV show, “Shindig!” James Brown performs “Please, Please, Please” and “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.” Tina Turner performs “A Fool In Love” by herself, “Money” and “I’ll Be Doggone” with Marvin Gaye. Marvin Gaye performs “Hitch Hike.” Booker T & the Mgs perform “Green Onions”. Joe Tex performs “Hold What You’ve Got.” Aretha Franklin performs “Rock-A-Bye Your Baby.” Two vintage commercials are included on the tape to remind us that “Shindig!” was brought to us “by the swingin’ cows and dairy farmers of the American Dairy Association” who remind us to “make it milk…OR VITALITY.”
