Raw tape for the award-winning series The 90’s. The tape begins with ten minutes of aerial shots of Midwestern farmland from a small airplane. The rest of the tape follows Orion Samuelson (who created and hosted U.S. Farm Report for WGN Radio AM-720), at the 1991 Farm Progress Show in Dalton City, IL. He broadcasts live from the show, then walks around and does reports in front of a video camera. Wind noise is frequently loud on the tape.

Raw footage for the award-winning series The 90’s. A recording of a live performance of “Milly’s Orchid Show,” a variety show at the Park West in Chicago, starring Brigid Murphy. Murphy emcee’s the show in the character of Southern Belle Milly Mae Smithy for this live comedy / variety show. This footage was shot with a static camera. Performers/performances include: House-O-Matic, a teenage dance group; Lisa Kotin, who performs an instructional parody, “Spring Training: Miss America”; a young teenage boy who sings a provocative R & B song, during which he strips off his shirt; comedian Emo Philips performs his typically eccentric stand-up act; the Texas Rubies, a female duo, perform a comedic rap, and some country songs; and a performance by musician Jim Lauderdale. [This tape contains the static version of more shaky / close-up footage on another tape.]
An interview with Robyn Smith, the famed jockey. As the one of the first females to race horses professionally, she touches on her jockeying career and the struggles she had encountered throughout it. Smith also discusses her passion for riding, the debate over whether it is the jockey or the horse that wins the race, and the politics and biases of the horse racing world.
In this part of an interview with hockey great Dennis Hull, Hull recounts the decisions that led him to his career in the NHL. He also gives insight into the mindset of a hockey player, discussing the importance of faith in oneself and the fact that winning the Stanley Cup, not one’s salary, is of the most paramount importance.

In this raw tape, Skip Blumberg shoots on the streets of New York for The 90’s, asking people about the upcoming presidential election. At the same time, Danny Schechter and a camera crew shoot Skip for a Globalvision video training tape. Most of the tape is Skip shooting Schechter’s crew as they interview him. Skip gives simple and clear explanations of the principles that guide his shooting (i.e., one should not look through the viewfinder but should instead learn to shoot without thinking about it).
