The narrator gives a brief overview of the episode which includes: an interview with Cubs broadcaster Jack Brickhouse, a look at Gordon Tech High School’s undefeated boys football team, and a preview of this week’s upcoming NFL games with Gary Fencik.

01:27Copy video clip URL The four commentators begin to talk about Chicago Bears Running Back Walter Payton and his great start to the football season. This cuts into a collection of interviews from Cubs fans venting their frustrations about the team’s loss in the playoffs.

03:25Copy video clip URL Cubs fans in and around the Daley Center vent about the Cubs losing the first round playoff series to the San Diego Padres, squashing any hopes of the team making it to the World Series that year. Most fans seem disappointed and upset. T-shirt vendors talk about the money they lost because of the Cubs losing in the playoffs.

04:54Copy video clip URL Cut back to the four commentators who are sitting down with Jack Brickhouse in the back room. Brickhouse talks about his distaste for the word “choke” and its usage after the Cubs’ loss in the playoffs. “I’ve had an awful lot of experience with losers so you know, this one didn’t throw me as much as maybe it did some other people because I’m used to it. It did hurt, there’s no question about that. And I’m generally a go along guy. If somebody comes up to me and criticizes the Cubs or the White Sox or the Bears or any of it or me or anybody else, alright fine. It’s your opinion. You know you’re a listener. You’re entitled to your opinion except when a guy uses the word ‘choke’ with me trying to explain the Chicago Cubs’ experience at San Diego. He gets my dander. I absolutely resent the word ‘choke.'” Brickhouse also talks about the possible changes the Cubs will make in the post season and analyzes First Baseman Leon Durham’s error in the final game of the series. The group cites the fact that Durham had made some amazing catches in the two previous games and indicates the irrationality of fans placing the weight of the loss on that one error. Brickhouse also talks about the effect that the playoff loss has had on the Chicago fans and compares and contrasts this past season to the Cubs 1969 season. This is then followed by the “Time Out Sports Almanac” segment.
