Videomaker Skip Blumberg covers Bill Clinton’s debate prep, speaking with speechwriters as well as members of a crowd waiting for a glimpse of Clinton. The majority of the tape takes place in a hotel lobby, and there are glimpses of campaign officials: Dee Dee Myers, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos, as well as Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Raw footage for The 90’s election specials. This tape features footage from the Illinois primary election day, March 17, 1992. The first segment takes place at a Bush / Quayle 1992 primary party. President George H.W. Bush makes a phone call to the party. Then, tape from Senate incumbent Alan Dixon’s party, at which he makes an eloquent concession speech to Carol Moseley Braun.
Raw footage for The 90’s election special. Videomaker Skip Blumberg covers the lead-up to the first presidential debate in St. Louis, Missouri. The tape begins in Kansas City with the Clinton team leaving the city where they had held their debate prep. Then there is footage of the Clinton support party at the St. Louis airport, then the debate hall at Washington University the next day.
Raw tape for The 90’s election specials. This tape covers the 1992 Illinois Senatorial primary between incumbent Alan Dixon, Carol Moseley Braun, and Al Hofeld. Carol Moseley Braun holds a small press conference to unveil her new radio and TV ads, which will air later in the week. She also plays a recorded endorsement from Rev. Jesse Jackson. The press asks her tough but fair questions; Braun is not shaken and responds intelligently. The TV ads are played directly on the tape at the end.
Raw tape for The 90’s election specials. Bill and Hillary Clinton go to the St. Paul Church of God in Christ at 45th and Wabash (across from the Robert Taylor Homes) on the South Side of Chicago. Bishop Louis H. Ford (1914-1995), a personal friend of the Clinton family and the man for whom the Bishop Ford freeway is named, preaches. Much gospel music.
